CTET

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) forms the most important teaching eligibility exam in India. The exam is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Structure and content of CTET
All questions in CTET will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), with four alternatives out of which one answer will be most appropriate. Each carrying one mark and there will be no negative marking.

There will be two papers of CTET:
(i) Paper I will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for classes I to V.
(ii) Paper II will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for classes VI to VIII.
Note: A person who intends to be a teacher for both levels (classes I to V and classes VI to VIII) will have to appear in both the papers (Paper I and Paper II).

Paper I (for Classes I to V) Primary Stage;
Duration of examination: Two-and-a-half hours. Structure and Content (All Compulsory): (Appendix I).

Paper II (for Classes VI to VIII) Elementary Stage:
Duration of examination: Two-and-a-half hours. Structure and Content (All Compulsory).

Note: For any other teacher, either Mathematics & Science or Social Studies/Social Science section may be chosen.
Language of the question paper: Main question paper shall be Bilingual (Hindi/English).

PSTET

Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test (PSTET) is a state-level examination carried out by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) to decide the eligibility of applicants for Primary (Classes 1 to 5) and Upper Primary (Classes 6 to 8) level teachers in the schools of Punjab.

PAPERS

Paper 1: For teaching Classes I–V (Primary Teacher)
Paper 2: For teaching Classes VI–VIII (TGT)
Note: Candidates eligible for both levels must appear for both Paper 1 & Paper 2.

PSTET PAPER 1 (CLASSES I–V)

Duration: 2½ Hours
Questions: 150 MCQs
Total Marks: 150

EXAM PATTERN

NATURE & STANDARD OF QUESTIONS (PAPER 1):

Child Development & Pedagogy (CDP):
• Focuses on educational psychology for ages 6–11 years.
• Covers learner characteristics, diverse learners, interaction, and teaching methods.
• 70% subject concepts & 30% pedagogy.
Language I (Punjabi):
• Tests proficiency in the medium of instruction
• 45–50% questions on language pedagogy.
Language II (English):
• Tests language, communication, and comprehension skills.
• 45–50% questions on language pedagogy. Mathematics & Environmental Studies:
• Focus on concepts, problem-solving, and pedagogy
• 25–30% questions on pedagogy.
• Questions are evenly distributed across the syllabus.
Difficulty Level:
• Based on Classes I–V syllabus, but the difficulty and linkages may extend up to the Secondary stage.

PSTET PAPER 2 (CLASSES VI–VIII)

Duration: 2½ Hours
Questions: 150 MCQs
Total Marks: 150
